“Nate True has developed yet another impressive hack using UV strobe lights, luminescent-dyed water, and a timer to create the illusion of water stopping in the air, slowing down the splashes into the pool beneath, and even travelling upward. You have to see it to believe it.”
Cool machine uses UV Leds to give a strobe effect to the fountain. fluorescein reagent powder is used to make the water fluorescent. A PIC micro-controller uses PWM to coordinate the liquid pump with the strobe Leds. By tweaking the electronics you can make the drops appear to be frozen in time or even move backwards. Nate has also started building a few fountains and selling them on eBay.

J. Kelly McCoy’s Homemade hot tub project has every thing that I look for in a project for this site. A true home built project that not to many people would have even attempted. J. Kelly started off with some parts from eBay and a dream. He took a huge plastic livestock tub and turned it in to a full working hot tub and kids pool. The tub includes a pump, heater, ozone generator and miles of plumbing. The hot tub is surrounded by a deck which hides the plumbing and mechanical for the hot tub. The total project only costed ~$1200.
